AgriFood Africa (GCRF)

The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) is a £1.5 billion fund to support cutting-edge research which addresses the problems faced by developing countries. GCRF forms part of the UK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) commitment.

In 2019, Innovate UK secured GCRF funding to extend activities that had been initiated through the AgriTech Catalyst.

The GCRF AgriFood Africa Programme, launched in London, December 2019, aims to realise sustainable management of the food production systems in Africa in a way that alleviates poverty, enhances economic prosperity and delivers improved wellbeing. Target long term outcomes of the programme include:

● Improving human health and diversity of diets and nutrition
● Impacting positively on rural income and food security
● Facilitating increased trade activity in agricultural products

 

Africa-UK AgriFood Innovation Mission 2020

The GCRF AgriFood Africa programme hosted six weeks of virtual missions from June 2020. These missions continue the effort to build a community of stakeholders from numerous African countries and the UK, to realise sustainable management of the food production systems in Africa in a way that alleviates poverty, enhances economic prosperity and delivers improved well-being. KTN is pleased to announce a further call for GCRF AgriFood Africa Innovation Awards to encourage UK research partners to address AgriFood challenges in Africa. In total, up to £800k will be available to support a maximum of 20 awards.
