60 start-ups and scale-ups on Innovation Alley showcased their innovations to thousands of manufacturing businesses at Smart Factory Expo.

This year’s Innovation Alley at Smart Factory Expo in Liverpool from 13 – 14 November showcased a wealth of talent with start-ups and scale-ups promoting innovative ideas and exciting advancements in technology across the manufacturing landscape.

Part of Digital Manufacturing week, Innovation Alley, sponsored by Innovate UK and organised in partnership with KTN, supported businesses across 8 visitor zones covering Industrial Automation, Digital Transformation, Supply Chain & Logistics, Industrial Data and Smart Factory.  Innovation Alley provided the tech start-ups with a space to pitch their ideas and build partnerships with digitally minded manufacturers and other suppliers.

KTN met and talked to some of the businesses exhibiting in Innovation Alley to find out what they felt were their highlights from the show.

One of the key talks at the event was from Brian Holliday, MD of Digital Industries at Siemens who said ‘The Internet of Things is becoming the ‚ÄòInternet of Everything‚Äô.¬†A lot can happen in a day. ¬†5.5 million new ‚Äòthings‚Äô get connected every day, and 50 billion things are expected to be connected by 2020. Half of all the data in the world has been created in the last 12 months, but most of that data is not being used to its full potential‚Äù.

This extensive amount of data generation highlights the need for tech savvy entrepreneurs and start-ups to bring their knowledge and skills into the manufacturing industry and harness this opportunity, both for themselves and, to help the UK manufacturing industry reduce the productivity gap.
