Presentations from the briefing event and sector-specific webinars for Round 9 of the Agri-Tech Catalyst competition are available now.

Updated 12th November 2019.

The Agri-Tech Catalyst offers funding for private sector/academic collaborative research and development projects, to deliver innovation in agriculture and food systems in Africa.  All projects must include a partner from an eligible African country.

Round 9 of funding from the catalyst is now open, and the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is providing dedicated support to organisations developing projects for the Agri-Tech Catalyst through a briefing and consortia-building workshop held on 24 October 2019 in Birmingham (click here to view the slides) and three webinars held on 6 November 2019, with each webinar focussing on one of the following areas: crop production, livestock and aquaculture, and food systems and nutrition.

About the Agri-Tech Catalyst Round 9

There is up to £5 million of funding available from the Department for International Development (DFID) and the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) for early-stage feasibility studies, mid stage industrial research and late-stage experimental development. Projects must work on agri-tech and food chain innovations with partners in eligible African countries.

The aim of this competition is to increase the pace of innovation in the development of agricultural and food systems in Africa. Your project must result in more use of innovations by farmers and food systems organisations such as manufacturers, processors, retailers, distributors and wholesalers.

This competition is split into 3 strands:

Early stage feasibility studies

Mid-stage industrial research

Late stage experimental development

The competition closes on 8 January 2020 at midday (12:00pm). Full details of the competition, eligible countries and deadlines is available on the Innovate UK competition page.

A briefing and consortia-building workshop was held on 24 October 2019 in Birmingham. The slides from this event can now be viewed here.

KTN also hosted three webinars on 6 November 2019 to provide dedicated support to organisations developing projects for Round 9 of the Agri-Tech Catalyst funding scheme, with each webinar focussing on one of the following areas: crop production, livestock and aquaculture, and food systems and nutrition. The main focus of the webinars was to help inform UK participants of the needs of African partners in the area covered, and African partners of the capabilities of UK partners, to aid consortia building.

The webinars provided an overview of the Agri-Tech Catalyst funding programme and covered specific issues affecting crops/food/livestock & aquaculture in Africa. During the webinars there were opportunities for African and UK organisations to pitch their project ideas and capabilities via a message board, to facilitate consortia building.
