Posted on: 26/02/2020

One week to go! Simple application process for programme to take academic cyber security ideas from lab to market.

Cyber threats are ever present and continuously evolving so it is vital to support and encourage the quest for new ideas and products to defend individuals and organisations from cyber attacks. The Cyber Security Academic Startup Accelerator Programme (CyberASAP) is designed to help do precisely this, supporting some of the brightest academic minds to develop and commercialise ideas in the cyber security space. Applying to participate in the 2020/21 programme is very straightforward and you have until noon on 4th March 2020 to submit your application.

Now in its fourth year, CyberASAP has already helped over 50 academic teams to develop their cyber security ideas. Throughout the programme, teams participate in a comprehensive series of workshops, bootcamps and briefings with expert mentors, helping develop ideas and prepare them for the commercial world. Hear from this year’s “alumni” about the value of participating in the programme here, and you can find out more about the successful outcomes of previous years’ cohorts here.

CyberASAP is all about promoting continued investment and innovation in this rapidly growing and vitally important sector. Funded by the UK Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and delivered through Innovate UK and the KTN, the programme culminates in a Demo Day where proof of concept demonstrators are showcased to the commercial world.

Addressing a full room of investors, industrialists and cybersecurity start-ups at this year’s Demo Day on the breathtaking 39th floor of Canada Square in London’s Canary Wharf, Andrew Elliot, Deputy Director, Cyber Security, Innovation and Skills at DCMS talked of the growth and value of the cybersecurity sector. Now employing 43,000 full time employees (a 37% increase on 2017), Elliot announced that “the sector’s Gross Value Added has reached £3.7billion, a 60% increase on the previous two years”.

Applying to be part of CyberASAP gives you the chance to be part of that vital growth.
