The Smart Specialisation Hub releases “Devolved Administrations‚Äô Innovation Activity” (DAIA), extending its comparative analysis to Scotland & Wales.

The Smart Specialisation Hub has released Devolved Administrations’ Innovation Activity (DAIA), extending its comparative analysis to Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Giving an extensive picture of innovation activity across the UK, the report builds on Mapping England’s Innovation Activity (MEIA), which shows current innovation activity across England’s 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs).

Dr Steve Welch, Director of the Smart Specialisation Hub, says:

“This valuable report provides important comparative information that extends the well-received mapping we have done for England.

“The report extends our overview of innovation activity, and provides a greater understanding of how innovative sectors are spread throughout the UK.

“We look forward to building on the Hub‚Äôs evidence and understanding of innovation across the UK and to extending our support to the UK with future reports.”

Although this report is not presented as a fully comprehensive view, it can be used to encourage engagement and discussion around innovation data, provide a comparable and evidenced overview of national innovation activity and allow areas to assess their comparative strengths based on activity.

The new report draws on the same six indicators used to measure innovation performance as detailed in Mapping England’s Innovation Activity. These include measures of research and business innovation activity from sources including the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), Scopus, Innovate UK and the Intellectual Property Office (IPO).
