Disruptive ideas, techniques and technologies in formulation science

Posted on: 18/12/2018

The SCI Formulation Forum is hosting a 2-day workshop on disruptive technologies on 21-22 January 2019 in London.

Disruptive innovations can bring rewards to early uptakers and penalties to slow uptakers. But what is a disruptive technology and how do you spot the new disruptive technologies from the distractions of novelties and niches? How can you extrapolate what is happening in other fields of science and technology into your field and ultimately formulation?

The SCI Formulation Forum is hosting a 2-day event to discuss the opportunities that AI in formulation optimisation and design could bring for faster development of formulated products through prediction.

This event is looking to bring together all the elements of formulating for the future into one forum, to learn and discuss how formulations and formulating will be adapted and improved in the advent of new disruptive ideas, techniques and technologies. The event will also provide an unparalleled opportunity to meet, build partnerships and network with others working in the field of formulating with disruptive technologies. There will be opportunities to openly raise, identify and discuss the opportunities and challenges in the field and propose paths to realise and address them.

Who should attend?

Formulation Forum events are equally open to major companies, SME’s, academics and students from all areas, including scientists, engineers, patent attorneys, marketing experts and business managers with an interest in formulation innovation and science. For students and academics this is a unique opportunity to learn about some of the fascinating opportunities arising in formulation.

Formulation science is crucial to many chemistry-using sectors including personal care, food and drink, agrochemicals, coatings and pharmaceuticals.

Call for Posters

Poster abstract submissions are invited from academia and industry containing appropriate scientific/technical content for research carried out in the last three years and will be selected on preference for those which involve:

  • A demonstration of disruptive ideas, techniques and technologies which are or could partner with formulation related products and projects
  • Novel and innovate applications of science in formulation design utilising new technologies
  • Good examples of networking across formulation communities and associated parties

An abstract of a maximum of 300 words should be sent to conferences@soci.org by Thursday 20 December 2018 with the subject line “Disruptive Technologies Рabstract submission”. Prizes will be awarded for the best poster.

New SCI Formulation Forum Award Application

The SCI Formulation Forum is pleased to announce the launch of a new award to recognise formulation innovations equally in both business and academia: The Innovation in Formulation and Formulation Science Award. The award recognises class leading work where formulation innovation has delivered new solutions that lead and inspire the formulation community.

Submissions are invited from scientists, both in academia and industry, for formulation science and formulation related developments which are considered worthy of the Formulation and Formulation Science award.

The application deadline is Friday 21 December 2018. You can find out more here.
