Global Expert Mission: UK-Australia Agri-Tech

Posted on: 26/04/2019

In February 2019, Dr Sandeep Sandhu and Chris Danks, KTN hosted a UK delegation of Agri-Tech sector specialist organisations to Australia.

As part of the government’s plan to build a Britain fit for the future through new ambitious Industrial Strategy, BEIS launched a £300m funding to Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) for Innovate UK to bring together the UK’s world-class research expertise with business investment to develop technologies and industries that can help the UK transform food production:

The £90m Transforming Food Producion ISCF will drive and transform the precision agriculture sector and will increase our understanding of crops and livestock to help produce resilient and sustainable food more efficiently, whilst reducing emissions and waste.

The aim of this Expert Mission was to better understand the Australian agri-tech innovation landscape, benchmarking against UK capability. The KTN International Team visited Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney on the 18th to the 22nd February 2019.

Clive Blacker, Head of Business Development, Arable and Produce Map of Ag:

‚ÄúAgriculture globally is being challenged to supply more food to feed expanding populations. Collaboration will be key in an increasingly digital world for farmers to develop ideas, technology and capabilities in order to meet demands. Learning first hand about the common and shared issues we face to produce quality low environmental impact food and the innovative solutions and innovations that are required to feed the world was inspirational. There are clear similarities and challenges which by working together we can combine skills and expertise to increase the leverage the fortunes of all related parties.”

Dr Sandeep Sandhu:

“During our visit to Australia we had very positive meetings with a range of stakeholders from government agencies to businesses and research organisations. These meetings highlighted many synergies and shared areas of interest in the agri-tech sector and offer substantial opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration between the UK and Australia.” Sandeep Sandhu
