The Cancer Research UK Early Detection Team and KTN are holding a showcase/networking event focused on in vitro diagnostics on 13th July in London.

Earlier diagnosis of cancers would significantly improve survival rates of patients and could save the NHS vast amounts of money. However, the translation of novel cancer early detection diagnostics is challenging and has a high attrition rate.

Cancer Research UK recognises that increased collaboration between academia  (including clinicians), commercial researchers and industry will help facilitate and improve the translation of Early Detection Research.

The Early Detection Team at Cancer Research UK are therefore launching a number of networking events to help foster collaboration between industrial and academic researchers. The first meeting will be held in partnership with the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) on Friday 13 July, 10am-5pm, at British Medical Association (BMA) House, London.

The event will focus on Early Detection of Cancer (EDx) In Vitro Diagnostics and will be a catalyst for applications to Cancer Research UK’s new Primer Award, which offers up to ¬£100,000 seed funding for novel ideas and new collaborations, with little to no preliminary research required.

The meeting will include presentations of other funding opportunities (including <£2.5 million for early detection research), plenary talks and sessions involving pairing of academic and industry researchers based on complementarity, as well as plenty of opportunity for networking.
