UK organisations may be eligible for two funding announcements, both worth US$5 million.

The two funding announcements are to support innovations in Smart Grids and Off-Grid Access to Electricity, two of Mission Innovation’s seven Innovation Challenges.

The calls provide an opportunity for Mission Innovation members to participate in them through collaboration with partners in India, and proposals would need to be led by partners in India.

The Smart Grids opportunity will sponsor innovations on components, systems, and technologies required to address the challenges of optimising grids powered by up to 100% renewable energy and interoperable with centralised networks.

The Off-Grid Access funding opportunity promotes innovations that will significantly reduce costs and increase performance of renewable power systems for individuals and communities with no or limited access to grid-connected power.

For both opportunities, awardees receive financial support to accelerate design, research, development, standards, demonstrations, capacity building and/or technical assistance.

Institutions and industries of MI member countries are welcome to join partnerships with lead Indian institutes and organisations to carry out collaborative work.

The deadline for submission of notification of intent is 31 August 2017. More information on the opportunities can be found below:

Mission Innovation is a global initiative of 22 countries and the European Union to dramatically accelerate global clean energy innovation. As part of the initiative, participating countries have committed to seek to double their governments’ clean energy research and development investments over five years, while encouraging greater levels of private sector investment in transformative clean energy technologies.
