Posted on: 19/12/2018

Over 80 delegates registered for the EUREKA PENTA Cluster webinar held on 18th December 2018 to find out about funding available for UK organisations.

The webinar was hosted by KTN on behalf of Innovate UK and was delivered by Peter Connock – PENTA Director,  Julian Heaton – Innovation Lean for Electronics, Sensors and Photonics, Innovate UK and Claire Claessen – Head of Projects and European Programmes, KTN.

PENTA is a EUREKA-funded Cluster with a mission to catalyse research, development and innovation in areas of micro and nanoelectronics enabled systems and applications.

Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is working with PENTA to deliver a 2019 call. Up to £2m is available for UK organisations with the objective of:

  • Supporting projects along the Electronic Components & Systems (ECS) value chain.
  • Helping the formation of innovation ‚Äúecosystems‚Äù bringing together the best technologies in large enterprises, SME‚Äôs, RTO‚Äôs and academia to form dynamic new teams that will extend the State of the Art with the potential of subsequent rapid commercial exploitation.

In all projects, partners are required from minimum of two PENTA countries covering at least an essential section of the total value chain. Collaboration is a vital element of PENTA participation, and time must be allocated to identify partners well in advance of the project outline submission deadline of 1st March 2019.

The webinar gave information on the scope of the call and its relevance to key application areas such as Transport and Smart Mobility, Health and Wellbeing, Energy, Digital Industry, and Digital Life.  The webinar enabled attendees to gain an insight into the benefits of participating, guidelines for preparing a project outline and the support and collaboration tools available.

In summary, the webinar covered:

  • Introduction to the EUREKA and PENTA Cluster
  • PENTA Process Overview
  • UK National Process
  • Support for UK Organisations

The webinar ended with a Q&A session which have been collated in a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ document which is available below.
