Investigating composition and structure at the surface of materials

Posted on: 06/09/2017

EPSRC’s new National Research Facility in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is hosting a training day on 11th October in Harwell.

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) is the best method available for identifying & quantifying the chemical composition of a surface whether it’s a polymer, metal or an oxide. It can be used to study both powders and solids and plays an important role in the development of new materials.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) have funded a National Facility based in Harwell to offer state-of-the-art spectroscopy and leading edge know-how for scientists in both university and industry. EPSRC’s National Research Facility in XPS will be based, in the future, at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH), managed by a consortium from Cardiff University, University College London (UCL) and University of Manchester.

The National Facility is hosting a training day, sponsored by the Henry Royce Institute, at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH) on Wednesday 11th October 2017. The meeting is primarily aimed at researchers new to XPS but everyone is welcome – they invite you to come along to find out what the new service will offer.
