KTN launches Future Flight landscape map

Posted on: 08/07/2021

KTN's Future Flight Landscape map connects the wide variety of UK sectors and expertise that are fundamental to the third aviation revolution.

This interactive landscape map provides insight into the capability in the UK to support the integration of new aircraft with the digital and physical infrastructure necessary for future flight.  You can explore the map to find new collaborative partners and see the breadth of investment and expertise in the UK.

The Future Flight Landscape Map at launch brings together over 157 organisations, 300 capabilities, 19 universities, 48 Future Flight Challenge projects and £33.5m in government investment in drones and advanced air mobility solutions.

The map will continue to improve and evolve over time, capturing the network as it grows. If your organisation would like to be added to the map, register here.

KTN has created the landscape map to support UKRI’s Future Flight Challenge, a £125m government investment to deliver the next revolution in aviation. This can only be achieved through collaboration so this new tool will be crucial in supporting and facilitating connections.

Not only does the Future Flight Challenge need expertise in Aerospace and Aviation, but also in a huge variety of sectors from AI and Agriculture to Materials and Medical.  A list of the types of industry expertise required is below.

Gary Cutts, Future Flight Challenge Director, UKRI, said:

‘The Future Flight Challenge is a very broad programme needing innovation in every aspect of the new aviation system, including sensors, communications systems, air traffic management, airport infrastructure and business concepts, to name a few. We are also looking for established industry to work with new entrants and SMEs to blend knowledge and new approaches. What’s more, it is essential that these capabilities are brought together in an integrated system by organisations working together across the full aviation spectrum. The Future Flight Landscape Map is a critical tool in bringing organisations together and sharing knowledge to realise the exciting potential of the 3rd revolution of aviation.’

Chris Crockford, Founder, Electric Aviation, said:

‘The Future Flight Landscape Map is a great resource detailing who’s doing what, around the country, to further electric aviation.

The map can help users to find new collaborative partners and is a showcase of the types of projects being delivered in the UK and the geographical spread of government and industry investment.  It is hoped that it will not only facilitate collaboration in the UK but will also demonstrate the UK’s capability to an international audience, encouraging inward investment and facilitating domestic and international collaborations.
