The Made Smarter Technology Accelerator is a national programme, designed to shape the UK's technology adoption directly into industry.

Delivered by Digital Catapult, funded by UKRI through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, as part of the national Made Smarter movement, Made Smarter Technology Accelerator is a national programme, set to fast forward and shape the UK’s technology innovation for the UK’s industrial sector.

Made Smarter Technology Accelerator will see the UK’s pioneering technology innovation community join forces with some of the UK’s leading medium and large industrial businesses, to answer some of the sectors most prevalent challenges. The unique acceleration programme provides the funding (up to £20k per team for prototyping and a further £100k for minimum viable products) and a platform to produce industry transforming prototypes, proofs of concepts and minimum viable products in order to drive productivity, digitalisation and innovation to push forward the fourth industrial revolution.

Industry challenges will be set within five themes:

  • Intelligent factory management and control
  • Intelligent product verification and validation
  • Transparent and data-driven procurement
  • Digitally enabled factory workforce
  • Resource measurement and analytics

Known impacts

These five themes and the outputs of the programme will have the following impacts for business and the wider industry with the potential to lead the way toward innovation by the manufacturing sector and into wider industry settings:

  • Optimising manufacturing operations
  • Creating trusted and resilient supply chains
  • Delivering higher quality with lower waste
  • Generating new revenue opportunities
  • Encouraging more sustainable business
  • Improving factory/site productivity

The Made Smarter wider mission is to inspire the new industrial revolution and support the vision of making the UK a global industrial leader by 2030, creating and exporting advanced digital technologies to shape how the world does business. The Made Smarter Technology Accelerator sits at the heart of this mission and will enable UK manufacturers to aid the recovery, improve productivity, increase market capitalisation, export growth and accelerate sectors towards industrial net zero.
