Ocean Plastic Solutions Investment Accelerator Competition & Briefing Event Announced
A new competition to tackle plastic pollution in the world‚Äôs oceans has opened with an accompanying briefing event taking place on 10th January.
A new competition has opened which invites UK companies to develop solutions to tackle the environmental crisis of plastic pollution in the world‚Äôs oceans. ‚ÄúOcean plastic solutions investment accelerator: reducing plastic pollution‚Äù is open for UK businesses for a share of up to ¬£2 million.
This investment accelerator competition provides ¬£1 million grant funding from Innovate UK and ¬£1 million private investment from Sky Ocean Ventures for early stage projects. The competition is open to single UK small and micro companies who are looking for grant funding and who want to establish an equity relationship with Sky Ocean Ventures.
The competition aims to support new scientific and technological innovation to reduce plastics waste and deliver a more circular economy approach to plastic use (this includes for polymer-based textiles and elastomers). This could include: scalable innovations along the entire plastics value chain; technology-enhanced business models that foster responsible consumption and drive the circular economy model; step-change efficiency improvements in the recycling, clean-up and treatment of waste plastics. The competition closes on 13th March 2019 at 12:00pm.

On Thursday 10th January KTN will be hosting The Ocean Plastics Accelerator Competition Briefing at Sky‚Äôs Headquarters in Isleworth. A guide to funding will be given, as well as an overview of the Sky Ocean Ventures Investment Fund, the competition itself and Circular Plastics Innovation. The event will offer the opportunity for networking, as well as the possibility to register on the day for 30 second open mic pitches.
