An industry challenge for digital innovators – register by 18 October to take part

The Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is partnering with ScottishPower Renewables, National Grid Electricity System Operator and the Energy Technology Partnership to host its first-ever hackathon taking place 28-29 October at the Glasgow Science Centre.

With a £10,000 prize pot available, the two-day hackathon centres around an industrial data-led challenge set by ScottishPower Renewables, with the aim of developing a prototype solution for use in wind farm operations.  The National Grid ESO will join the hackathon’s judging panel, alongside the Catapult and ScottishPower Renewables.

The Challenge
The problem statement for the 36-hour hackathon is: ‘Provide an accurate wind farm Power Available (PA) measurement using data that is already available at operational wind farms’.

PA is the electrical power that can be provided by a wind farm at any given instant, and is influenced by both the wind resource in that moment and the status of the assets, including any on-site curtailment.

UK-based small businesses, academics, students, consultancies and specialists from data-led sectors are all invited to participate. Teams of up to six people will be eligible to win a share of the prize pot and the successful squads will have the opportunity to pitch their solutions to senior managers from ScottishPower Renewables.

Registration is now open here and the deadline to register is Friday 18 October.
