Showcasing advances in composite materials

Posted on: 04/04/2019

The programme has been announced for the KTN conference on Next Generation Composite Matrix Materials on 22nd May in Manchester.

Composite materials – such as fibreglass and polyester – are part of everyday life. They combine two or more constituent materials, usually with differing physical or chemical properties, to produce a new material with its own distinct properties such as increased strength or durability.

Composite materials are now becoming widely used throughout a number of sectors, often providing essential performance enhancing properties such as reduced weight or lower on-going maintenance costs. However, much of the polymer matrix materials chemistry has remained unchanged for a number of years.

The industry-led Composites Leadership Forum and the UK Chemistry Council have both identified an opportunity for growth in the area of materials for composites. Advances in materials chemistry have the potential to allow us to capitalise on this growth opportunity by introducing new functionality and increased performance of materials to end users of composites.

Next Generation Composite Matrix Materials Conference, 22 May, Manchester

The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is hosting a conference on 22nd May 2019 in Manchester to highlight the UK’s research excellence within the field of next generation composite matrix materials. The event is aimed at industry participants and senior academics.

We are please to announce that the full programme is now available. Confirmed speakers include senior academics (from the Universities of Edinburgh, York, Huddersfield, Bristol, Manchester, Bolton) and industry stakeholders (including Victrex plc, Bitrez, Huntsman Advanced Materials and CPI).

You can find out more about this conference, including a full list of authors, confirmed presentations and abstracts, on the event page here.

If you have any questions, please contact Sheena Hindocha, KTN’s Knowledge Transfer Manager for Materials Chemistry.
