UKCPN signs up as Engagement Partner of the UK Plastics Pact
UKCPN has signed up as an engagement partner of the UK Plastics Pact.
The UK Circular Plastics Network (UKCPN) has become an engagement partner of the UK Plastics Pact (UKPP). The Pact aims to transform the UK plastic packaging sector and stop plastics polluting the environment by 2025.
The UK Plastics Pact was established in April 2018 by WRAP (The Waste & Resources Action Programme), and it is a collaborative initiative that will create a circular economy for plastics, bringing together businesses from across the plastics sphere with UK governments and NGOs to eliminate plastic waste. UKPP has set out four tickets which it hopes to achieve by 2025. These are as follows:
1.     100% of plastic packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable
2.     70% of plastic packaging to be effectively recycled or composted
3.     Take actions to eliminate problematic or unnecessary single-use packaging items through redesign, innovation or alternative delivery models
4.     30% average recycled content across all plastic packaging
By signing up to the Pact, we are demonstrating our support to facilitate movement towards the four targets. As partners and specifically through the UK Circular Plastics Network we will work together to identify solutions, amplify messages and cascade best practice. Other members of the UK Plastics Pact include Marks & Spencer, Procter & Gamble, Boots, Environment Agency, and Asda.
