UKRI Circular Economy Workshops

Posted on: 09/05/2019

Expression of interest registration is open for UKRI Circular Economy workshops on 5th June in Manchester and 21st June in London.

A circular economy is one where we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. A rapid transition to a more circular economy offers the UK potential for sustainable growth and prosperity, but requires clear implementation pathways, based upon sound research evidence.

EPSRC, on behalf of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), is working with Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Innovate UK, to convene two interdisciplinary meetings which aim to bring together the respective research and innovation communities with an interest in Circular Economy, and to strengthen collaboration to enable greater interdisciplinary working.

The meetings are intended to:

  • Seek input on key challenges and opportunities
  • Facilitate cross-disciplinary networking
  • Build potential new research collaborations
  • Identify potential resource flows around which communities could convene and build future funding proposals. Examples of which may include but are not limited to:
    Food Value Chains
    Consumer Goods
    Future Material Systems

The meetings will be held on 5th June in Manchester and 21st June in London. Registration will close at 16:00 on 21 May 2019.

UKRI would like to enable a broad range of researchers with interest in activities related to the circular economy to attend the community meeting. As such this is open to researchers across all disciplines including relevant social, cultural and ethical, environmental, economic, legal and regulatory, technological, behavioural. With particular encouragement for researchers with interest in and/or experience of working across disciplinary fields.

For any consortia who may want to apply for any future funding in this area, whilst not mandatory, it is recommended that you attend.

If the event is oversubscribed the Councils reserve the right to manage attendance to preserve an institutional and expertise balance. Applicants will be advised on whether your application was successful soon after registration closes. The cost of attending the workshop will be the responsibility of the attendee.

Registration for both community meetings is available here.
