Watch: highlights from Compound Semiconductor Showcase

Posted on: 30/11/2018

On 27th November, business leaders and technologists came together to showcase some of the UK’s leading compound semiconductor technologies.

“Despite their significant impact in bringing about major technological advances over the last three decades, compound semiconductors have been the unsung heroes, often considered a niche industry.”

“Compound semiconductors have defined the evolution of fibre-optic communications. Similarly, the adoption of wireless communications has been driven by compound semiconductors that offer the performance advantages needed for 3G and 4G handsets and wireless network infrastructure.”

“Until recently, optical and wireless communications have been the primary markets for compound semiconductors, but new and emerging technologies are placing rapidly increasing demands on our industry for optical sensing, power control, millimetre wave and microwave, energy efficiency and a plethora of other advanced capabilities.”

Excerpts from the Foreword by Chris Meadows, IQE plc, which is available in full here along with exhibitor profiles from the event.

The aim of these showcase events is to accelerate commercialisation and to stimulate collaboration between the research base and industry in order help companies scale-up and grow. See some of the technology demonstrators in this short video.

KTN wishes to thank the following organisations for participating in the exhibition:
Advanced Hall Sensors, Integrated Compound Semiconductors, Amethyst Research, Lancaster University, University of Surrey, Advanced Epi, DZP Technologies, IQE, Compound Semiconductor Technologies, University of Nottingham, TTPi, Compound Semiconductor Applications Catapult, INEX Microtechnology, Nottingham Trent University and the University of Bristol.
