With two-thirds of life science manufacturing jobs already outside London and the South East, the new £20 million fund will also open up economic and investment opportunities for manufacturers across the whole of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, improving our domestic supply chains and safeguarding and creating hundreds of highly skilled manufacturing jobs.

Manufacturers can apply for a share of up to £20 million in capital grant funding to manufacture medicines and diagnostic equipment in the UK. The fund is open to private sector manufacturers of:

  • human medicines
  • medical diagnostics
  • medical technologies (MedTech)

The minimum total eligible project cost for applications is £8 million. There is no upper limit on the size of projects.

 

The fund is open to:

  • Private sector businesses making investments in the UK – as opposed to fully or partly state-owned
  • Manufacturers of human licensed medicines (GMP and/or MIA), medical diagnostics and medical devices, either for investigational use or authorised for marketing
  • Projects with a minimum total size £8m, with no upper limit
  • Projects delivering new facilities, expansions, new product lines, equipment or other capital costs underpinning manufacturing facility upgraes
  • Projects that would defray the equivalent amount of grant funding requested before the end of financial year 2021-22
