Nigel manages the Enabling Technologies team and works with organisations developing or using advanced embedded systems. This work is to help companies to understand and adopt the latest technologies and to understand how to use smart systems to improve their productivity and reduce resource usage. Nigel’s aim is to connect technology producers with technology users.

He works with people involved in product development from R&D engineers and product managers, through to CTOs and CEOs, mainly in the fields of Embedded Systems, Smart Systems, EdgeAI, AIoT.

Nigel initially worked on Smart Systems through the European Platform of Smart Systems (EPoSS) and was a work package leader on both the EXPRESS and inSSIght H2020 programmes. The smart systems work has recently been extended to incorporating AI in edge solutions – working with the EPSRC electronics network.

Nigel sits on the Steering Board of the European Technology Platform on Smart Systems Integration (EPoSS) and also on the Advisory Boards of the eFutures and Connected Everything networks, run by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). This allows him to connect organisations he supports to European organisations and to the UK Research Community.

Before joining KTN, Nigel started his career researching computer control of industrial processes at Cambridge University, followed by nearly 30 years of R&D and Product Development in high tech companies introducing new products and technologies to industry
