Head of Online Experience

Purpose of the role

The role is responsible for developing and managing a KTN digital design, content and acquisition strategy and leading a small team of web managers to increase reach and engagement for KTN and our programmes.

The role will have ownership over multiple websites, online event production and will work collaboratively with technical, financial, communications and events experts across the organisation to ensure that our websites and online platforms – including online event experiences – are effectively reaching the objectives of the organisation.

Using and sharing data gathered online to inform and influence future decisions, the role will work collaboratively to highlight topics or issues of strategic importance.

As a senior leader of the Reach and Engagement Directorate, the role will collaborate with colleagues across the organisation exploring the best and most effective way of promoting their work.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Collaborate to design and deliver KTN’s digital design, content and acquisition plan, which meets the ambitious commitments laid out in our five-year strategy.
  • Lead a team of digital and content managers responsible for increasing reach and engagement for KTN and our programmes.
  • Ensure that there is consistently high quality of online output – in both design and messaging – across KTN websites, platforms and forums.
  • Take an active leadership role, developing influential working relationships internally throughout across KTN.
  • Lead on bringing together a comprehensive and simple portfolio of websites and platforms that visibly align and share a consistently high-quality user-journey.
  • Ensure that all suppliers are contracted in accordance with company policy and have the experience and security credentials to reduce any associated risk to KTN as an organisation.
  • Motivate, lead and coach a team of events and communications professionals, ensuring that they communicate effectively across teams, amplifying our reach and engagement activity.


  • Experience of leading and developing a strategic plan to include budgeting responsibilities.
  • Senior level experience of managing a portfolio of websites and online platforms, with a clear understanding of website architecture and design.
  • Senior level experience of launching new online platforms to a complex brief.
  • Senior level experience in channel management.
  • Experience in increasing web traffic, conversion and growing online conversations.
  • Proven track record of using data and insights to adapt plans and improve results against set objectives.
  • A broad knowledge of digital marketing ranging from SEO/SEM, PPC, email and databases and organic and paid social media.
  • Experience of strong cost management and forecasting.


  • Strong leadership capability with the ability to effectively lead and motivate a team working in a complex and challenging environment and who need to effectively balance short and long-term priorities.
  • Ability to look continuously for opportunities for improvement and to develop strategies for change to influence and shape the future direction of the business

  • This role has a salary range of £50,000 to £60,000 pa dependent on experience
