Knowledge Transfer Manager - Automated Mobility

Purpose of the role

Automated vehicles offer transformational opportunities for safety, accessibility, lower emissions and increased efficiency and productivity of our transport systems. The post holder will play a key role in identifying innovations and connecting opportunities to make an impact and translate UK potential into commercial reality.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with current and relevant knowledge and experience in automated mobility to join the Transport Team at Innovate UK KTN. The successful candidate will define, deliver and/or support programmes of work focused on enabling innovative solutions in connectivity and automation to be embedded in the transport system. The role involves providing innovation support to companies working in transport and associated industries, driving knowledge transfer between the science base and industry, promoting networking and enabling innovation.

The post involves working with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), government departments (e.g. Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV), Department for Transport (DfT)), industry groups and across academia to deliver innovation programmes and help businesses to access relevant funding competitions and catalyse new business partnerships. The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of the technologies needed to enable connectivity and automation in transport.

The aim of the Transport Team is to support the UK’s transport innovation agenda, covering all traditional transport modes, passenger and freight, whilst remaining agile to respond to new and emerging innovations.

The post holder will also be required to support related projects across Innovate UK KTN (e.g. Position, Navigation and Timing).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Connecting companies and other innovation stakeholders to each other, through targeted introductions and collaborations to maximise impact on UK economic growth
  • Working across Innovate UK KTN to leverage our diverse communities and opportunities for automated mobility, clearly communicating potential applications and capabilities to prospective user-sectors and markets.
  • Support development and implementation of future strategy and work programmes for automated mobility.
  • Support the development of cross-cutting application areas such as: 5G connectivity for Transport, Quantum technologies, Cybersecurity, Zero Emissions, Sensors, AI, Robotics, Satellite Navigation, Telematics, etc., by working with other staff in KTN.
  • Identify and monitor trends and opportunities for innovation through interaction with business and the technology base.
  • Ensure that industry is aware of the funding opportunities for automated mobility related innovation.
  • Facilitate networking opportunities for industry to meet with peers and potential collaborators through the organisation of workshops and meetings.
  • Meet with companies, research institutions and universities, in the UK, to understand their R&D needs and innovation capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders, departments, forums, and groups active in related areas.
  • Deliver and assist in the support of new funding streams related to industrial challenges including delivering collaboration events.



This is a multi-disciplinary role and we are looking for an individual who can show a strong mix of skills, to deliver success.

  • Experience of working in an automated mobility business or business-facing organisation.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the technologies and services to enable automated mobility.
  • Significant successful project management experience.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively across multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, explaining complicated matters simply.
  • Readily identifies business opportunities and delivers a programme of work to advance the knowledge base or business innovation.
  • Experience of convening stakeholders to deliver on a project or task.


  • Highly motivated, self-starting, pro-active, and results oriented.
  • Comfortable working autonomously with little supervision or as a team member as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently and build effective relationships and take initiative.

  • Well-developed written and verbal skills, able to translate complex topics for a broad audience.
  • Ability to ideate, curate and effectively deliver online and physical events as well as speaking, chairing/facilitating, workshops and panels.
  • Must be proficient in normal office software tools with excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Flexible, reliable and adaptable with good interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Goal orientated, forward focused & ambitious to achieve impact.
  • Able to work concurrently on multiple and/or large-scale projects.


  • This role has a salary between £31,500 and £46,900 pa.
