Knowledge Transfer Manager - Net Zero

Purpose of the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Net Zero team to lead two of our key strategic net zero programmes:

  1. Circular Economy Innovation Network

The Circular Economy Innovation Network has been created to create stronger, more collaborative and resilient industries working together to achieve net zero through circular innovation. By building new sector communities, focussed on circular design, circular business models and circular recovery we will empower industry members to come together for the first time to co-create a shared pathway for impact in achieving net zero through circular innovation.

  1. Net Zero 2030 programme

Net Zero 2030 programme is an internal change initiative focussed on Innovate UK KTN achieving carbon neutrality by 2027 and net zero by 2030 as part of our commitment to Race to Net Zero SME Climate Commitment.

The post will be varied working with both businesses across a range sectors with a focus on circular economy innovation opportunities driven by key challenges facing these sectors; and working with internal stakeholders and partners to deliver a successful change programme to enable Innovate UK KTN to achieve its goal of becoming Net Zero by 2030.

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Lead the delivery of specific Net Zero projects and initiatives including Circular Economy Innovation Network and Net Zero 2030 programme.
  • An active team member, supporting the effective delivery of KTN’s Net Zero Central Programme and Sector Portfolio.
  • Delivery of KTN KPIs, project reports, proposals, CRM intelligence and case studies relating to KTN’s Net Zero Programme.

Roles and Resposibilities

  • Take ownership of the ongoing development and delivery of the Net Zero 2030 strategy and plan, working with teams throughout the organisation to deliver initiatives across all business areas.
  • Set targets, track progress, publicise initiatives, and work across the business and supply chain to achieve goals in line with Net Zero 2030 programme.
  • Lead on the delivery of the Circular Economy Innovation Network, acting as both technical lead and project manager coordinating input from teams across the business.
  • Play an active role in shaping and supporting the ongoing development and delivery of the Innovate UK KTN Net Zero Programme.
  • To be compelling as a facilitator, coordinating and engaging with internal and external stakeholders for effective delivery of net zero projects and initiatives.
  • To directly engage with businesses and relevant stakeholders, providing support through knowledge transfer, making relevant new connections and facilitating impactful collaborations.
  • To plan and deliver dissemination, scoping and networking meetings and events in collaboration with Reach & Engagement colleagues, encouraging cross-sector involvement.
  • To seek opportunities for KTN, with potential for new and additional revenue streams.
  • To contribute to KTN wide communications (e.g. yammer, Zoom) and projects, helping colleagues as required.
  • To track progress of businesses to determine outcomes resulting from KTN interventions, seeking case studies and metrics (KPI) capture.
  • To actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) in all work and support the organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on ED&I.


Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree qualified or equivalent and/or relevant industry experience
  • Project Management qualification and/or relevant experience such as experience of delivering multi-stakeholder, complex projects
  • Demonstrable interest and understanding of implementing net zero/sustainability strategies and action plans
  • Strong understanding of the UK innovation landscape, ideally cross-sectorial, with specific expertise in Net Zero and Circular Economy.
  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, with a good external profile.

Skills and Competencies

  • This role requires a highly motivated, self-starting and results oriented individual with a good understanding of net zero and circular economy.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently and build effective relationships.
  • Team player with good relationship building and influencing skills; able to interact with and understand the needs and capabilities of a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Enjoys working in a collaborative manner in an open, honest, and diverse environment.
  • A good communicator with well-developed written and verbal skills, able to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively across multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, explaining complicated matters simply.
  • Flexible, reliable, and adaptable with good time management skills.
  • Comfortable working autonomously with little supervision or as a team member as required.
  • High level of IT literacy, with excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Highly numerate and analytical, with the ability to think strategically.
  • Subject to restrictions, willingness and ability to undertake domestic travel when required


  • This role has a salary between £40,000 to £45,000 pa depending on experience.
  • 28 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, pro rata for the year and if part time.
