Knowledge Transfer Manager - Online Safety Technologies (Fixed Term Contract)

Purpose of the role:

KTN and The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) are seeking to drive growth and innovation in the UK and international Safety Tech sector, so that companies have access to a mature market of technologies through which they can protect their online communities and comply with upcoming UK government regulations on duty of care.

The Safety Tech Innovation Network is funded by DCMS and delivered by KTN:

The aim of the network is to support the growth of Safety Tech by:

  • Encouraging and supporting innovation: enabling more efficient collaboration on technical solutions in the UK and beyond – information sharing, problem solving and solution creation
  • Driving adoption: showcase safety tech across sectors and create stronger networks to connect buyers and suppliers
  • Raising awareness of safety tech: creating a consistent voice for the sector and coordinate showcasing activities

The Safety Tech Innovation Network has achieved a substantial impact during 2020 and the early part of 2021 growing from zero, with deliverables including:

  • A website that receives 3,000 average monthly unique visitors
  • 421 Safety Tech Network members
  • Social media presence – 400 Twitter followers and 200 LinkedIn followers
  • 6 expert-led membership events, including a ‘safety tech unconference’ for 200 people.

KTN has secured additional funding for a second year to further grow the network and its activities until March 2022. (Phase 2)

The main objectives of this phase will be to:

  • build on the work completed to date to move the network forward, creating a larger more cohesive critical mass of technology businesses, end-users and stakeholders.
  • increase the number of companies utilising products, services and solutions provided by businesses in the sector.
  • connect the STIN community to other relevant technology and business areas and enhance the opportunities for network members to grow through innovation and supply chain collaboration.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Account managing the partners at DCMS and acting as the lead deliverer on the Safety Tech Innovation network activity for KTN working closely with the wider network delivery team at Nominet, and Innovate UK and other key stakeholders.
  • Day to day management and co-ordination of the web development contract and marketing and comms contract with external consultants. (These are currently going through procurement)
  • Proactively driving and overseeing the growth of the network, monitoring indicative measures and KPI’s for that growth to build on their March 2021 state and reporting outcomes.
  • Championing the Safety Tech sector externally and internally and acting as a positive ambassador for the KTN and the Safety Tech Innovation Network.
  • Business Engagement:
    • Connecting companies and other innovation stakeholders to each other, through targeted introductions, engagements, and collaborations to maximise impact on UK economic growth
    • Working across KTN to leverage our diverse communities and opportunities for Safety Tech technology, clearly communicating potential applications and capabilities to prospective user-sectors and markets.
    • Helping to secure sponsorship against programme and event activity where relevant opportunities are present.
    • Managing and facilitating a set of 20 Safety Tech events throughout the year.
    • Speaking at relevant “external” UK and International industry events.
  • Managing and commissioning the authoring of blogs, articles, member features and other content to drive value to the community. (Via our stakeholders, partners and communications consultants)
  • Utilising social media to enhance and drive engagement and participation.
  • Using the KTN CRM to measure and record the increase in Safety Tech sector businesses engaging with KTN in support for innovation. Tracking progress of businesses and providing regular reporting of activity to capture outcomes resulting from KTN and STIN interventions, seeking case studies and metrics (KPI).
  • Driving activity and metrics focusing on diversity, equality and diversity of event speakers and attendees.



This is a multi-disciplinary role and we are looking for an individual who can show a strong mix of skills, (listed below), to deliver success.

  • Industrial leadership experience in the Safety Tech and/or other Digital business for sector development and/or economic growth
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, pro-active, and results oriented. Comfortable working autonomously with little supervision or as a team member as required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently and build effective relationships, and take initiative. A team player with good relationship building and influencing skills; enjoys working in a collaborative manner in an open, honest, and diverse environment
  • Significant successful project management experience
  • Demonstrable financial expertise to provide effective management of project and programme budgets
  • A sound understanding of commercial issues that are important for businesses.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively across multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, explaining complicated matters simply.
  • Well-developed written and verbal skills, able to translate complex topics for a broad audience
  • Ability to ideate, curate and effectively deliver online events as well as speaking, MC’ing events, workshops and panels.
  • Must be proficient in normal office software tools with excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Flexible, reliable and adaptable with good interpersonal and time management skills.


  • This role has a salary up to £55,000 pa. pro rata for the contract
