Knowledge Transfer Manager - Precision Medicine and Healthy Ageing

Purpose of the role

To support precision medicine and healthy ageing activity across the research base, funders and other stakeholders in order to facilitate collaboration and to support UK industry. This role would suit an individual with broad medical technology sector knowledge who understands the challenges faced by early-stage companies as they develop and scale. Given that the terms precision medicine and healthy ageing cover such a wide range of technologies and business models, the ability be flexible and to understand scientific concepts across the life sciences is key to this role.

The role will report to the Head of Health and work closely with other sector teams across Innovate UK KTN.

This person will be responsible for the delivery of a number of key Innovate UK KTN objectives with respect to support of the precision medicine and health ageing sectors and linking activity across Innovate UK KTN.

  1. Providing a link to Innovate UK Lead Technologists
  2. Identifying, planning and delivering precision medicine related tasks and others as required
  3. Be an early stage precision medicine champion and technical expert externally and internally
  4. Facilitate collaborations
  5. Develop links to the private sector investment community and work with our Investment Team to generate positive change

In addition, this person will:

Raise awareness of Innovate UK KTN within the sector in the UK and beyond.

Deliver agreed business goals for knowledge transfer across the sector. Recommend how the cross-sector capabilities of Innovate UK KTN could be developed to match the needs of industry.

Work with key stakeholders to establish and continually update/review the landscape of precision medicine and healthy ageing companies in the UK. Develop industry networks and contacts within the sector in order to inform our strategic direction.

Role and Responsibilities

  • To effectively deliver against Innovate UK KTN’s Health Work Programme focusing on the needs of precision medicine and healthy ageing companies in the early stages of development.
  • To develop relationships with companies new to Innovate UK KTN to widen the scope of our links with industry.
  • Work closely with Innovate UK, Research Councils and other key stakeholders to support industry relevant initiatives.
  • To work with UK businesses working on precision medicine and healthy ageing products and processes to understand how technology innovation could contribute to achieving their business objectives.
  • To work across Innovate UK KTN sector groups, particularly responding to new innovations that can impact on early-stage technology developments whether delivered by small companies or large multinational businesses.
  • To attend Innovate UK KTN company meetings as required, including standing in for Line Manager where required.
  • To manage time responsibly and to produce reports or case studies covering the work delivered.
  • To capture contacts made in the process of delivering Innovate UK KTN activities via our CRM system.
  • To take responsibility for contributing towards your own development with the guidance of the Line Manager, attending training courses as identified.
  • To show commitment to company values in all aspects of your role.
  • To act as a positive ambassador for the business.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant industrial experience, including R&D and project management.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced in developing business opportunities in precision medicine and health ageing.
  • Demonstrable success in facilitating collaborations.
  • Hold a relevant higher degree or equivalent qualification .

Skills

  • Possess highly developed interpersonal and communication skills in order to maintain professional working relationships at all times and work positively and collaboratively with a range of colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Possess strong problem solving skills and the ability to evaluate alternative courses of action and formulate recommendations.
  • Possess good critical information seeking skills and the ability to use the information obtained to reach the most appropriate decision.
  • Have excellent IT and presentational skills.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and influencing skills to ensure desired outcomes.
  • Possess the ability to present a professional image of Innovate UK KTN at all times.
  • Organisation skills and project management.

  • This role has a salary between £38,000 – £42,000 pa depending on experience.
