Cyber Innovation Series 2021/22: FeDCam

Posted on: 10/02/2022

FeDCam is one of the final 10 academic teams in the current CyberASAP cohort preparing their Pitches and Proofs of Concept of cyber innovations for public viewing at Demo Day on 17 February (1.30pm-6.30pm, online).

About FeDCam

Identifying a suspect is one of the main barriers in policing, costing thousands of victims collectively billions of pounds each year. Gaps in identification lead to a lower rate of successful prosecution, which can mean repeat instances are more likely to occur.

Current surveillance technology uses unified prediction and detection techniques based on single-biometric data which can result in false alarms and inconclusive evidence. This reliance on local processing and storage infrastructure can often add to system cost and generate time-consuming processes for investigators.

FeDCam is an innovative software solution and 3rd party platform that creates a secured federation of surveillance cameras.

The AI based solution uses multi-biometric data for offender identification, significantly reducing false alarms compared with existing solutions. FeDCam’s one-stop evidence shop approach enhances productivity in crime policing, reduces time for offender prosecution, discourages offenders from getting involved and saves money for the end user (subscription cost will be low because of minimal IT requirement at the local level, which also reduces the cyber threat).

The FeDCam Team

The team from Wolverhampton University combines expertise and experience in: Telecommunications, signal processing and algorithm modelling, Cyber security, computer vision, image processing and commercialization & knowledge transfer.

The team consists of:

  • Nikolas Ersotelos
  • Arafatur Rahman
  • Andrew Pollard

“CyberASAP provided me and my academic team with a great opportunity not only to  commercialise our technical idea, but also to develop the skill-sets required for a team to become a successful start-up. Personally, being involved with CyberASAP was a well structured, transformational learning journey for me.” – Professor Mohammad Patwary
