Strengthening the development and commercialisation of innovative sustainable formulated products

Posted on: 20/04/2017

A Strategic Research Agenda and Implementation Plan is being developed for the formulated products industries.

Formulated products, such as laundry detergents, skin lotions, foods and paints are composed of two or more ingredients which have been selected, processed and combined in order to achieve a final product with the desired properties, functionality and performance.

A new EU Horizon 2020 funded project is aiming to strengthen Europe’s leadership in the development and commercialisation of innovative sustainable formulated products. AceForm4.0 (Activating Value Chains for EU leadership in FORMulation Manufacturing 4.0) intends to achieve this goal by working with relevant stakeholders to establish a strategic roadmap, develop an associated implementation plan for 2025 and stimulate the creation of new collaborative value chains and partnerships in the context of the opportunities offered by industry 4.0 and the drive by Europe towards a circular economy.

The UK’s National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) are partners in the AceForm4.0 consortium. CPI is currently constructing a National Formulation Centre to provide open access facilities and expertise for companies to develop, prove and scale-up their newly formulated products.

AceForm4.0 now invites you to participate in the EU’s¬†public consultation¬†to establish a Strategic Research Agenda and Implementation Plan¬†for the formulated products industries. It is intended that the findings will serve as guidelines for the allocation of European public funding for research and development activities over the next 5-10 years. By participating in the survey you will be able to input into those areas that will effectively enable your organisation to increase its competitiveness and its innovation potential.

You can find out more about this consultation on the AceForm4.0 website.

Do you have an innovative formulation proposal that you would like to discuss? KTN’s Dr Rachael Rowlands-Jones (Knowledge Transfer Manager, Formulation) can provide advice on upcoming funding opportunities, introductions to potential collaborators and assistance with project proposals.
