UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowships are grants for businesses of any size, in any sector across the UK, that want to significantly enhance the career potential of a highly talented employee through the implementation of a challenging and strategically important research or innovation project within the business.

Fellowships offer a business the opportunity to build significant new or enhanced capability; to scale and grow the business; to enhance their competitive position in the marketplace and their reputation as an innovative and attractive employer for ambitious, highly skilled individuals.

A business might choose to use the Fellowship to build collaborative relationships with other businesses and/or academic researchers, enhancing their network and building an effective pipeline for new ideas, employees and partnerships. Equally, this is the kind of scheme which might very well suit Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associates, whose skills and expertise could be further developed at the end of their KTP project to become business leaders of the future.

This webinar will introduce the Future Leaders Fellowship scheme and explain more about the competition and how to apply. The webinar is expected to last between 30 and 45 minutes, which includes time for questions.

Fellowship grants are awarded competitively and last for four years. The grant covers the salaries of the Fellow and their immediate team, as well as materials, capital equipment, facilities, travel and subsistence, training and overheads. Businesses contribute between 30% and 50% of the total cost, depending on the size of the organisation.

UKRI aims to award 200 new Future Leaders Fellowships each year, across business and academia.

The budget awarded for each Fellowship will depend upon the characteristics of the proposed Fellowship and the project to be undertaken, with a maximum of £1.2m for 4 years.

The competition will open on the 2nd September 2019, with potential applications being required to submit an outline proposal before the 8th October 2019. Full applications will be required before the 7th November 2019.
