Zoohackathon - Help combat the buying and selling of illegal animal products

Posted on: 31/08/2017

ZSL London Zoo and the US Embassy London are co-hosting their second global Zoohackathon event in collaboration with Bloomberg.

“The buying and selling of illegal animal products is one of the biggest threats to wildlife conservation worldwide.

ZSL London Zoo and U.S. Embassy London are asking for your help to tackle this crisis. They are looking for Coders, Designers, Creatives and Subject Matter Experts to create apps, technical solutions and communications to support law enforcement and tackle this organised crime.

 ”

“In 2016, zoos from three continents, in collaboration with local U.S. Embassies, joined forces in the world’s first Zoohackathon. Over 80 digital masterminds joined the London event for a 48 hour hack and sleep over, creating solutions including an anonymous whistle-blowing app, Facebook bots that could tell you whether there is pangolin in your stew, or online platforms that inform on illegal wildlife products at different tourist destinations. During 2017 ZSL have continued working with the winning teams to turn their amazing concepts into reality.

This year zoos will once again come together to address this challenge at Zoohackathon 2017, on 6th-8th October 2017 at ZSL London Zoo. You can find out more about Zoohackathon here, and you can register to take part in the London event here.”
