Knowledge Transfer Manager – Design

 

Purpose of the Role

As a key member of the Innovate UK Design in Innovation team, your purpose will be to manage assets and materials which support the effective communication about our work with internal and external stakeholders. This will include data visualisation, design frameworks and toolkits, as well as slide decks and reporting templates, ensuring that they are engaging, accessible and up to date.

Demonstrating both creative and technical design skillsets, you will be responsible for liaising with all team members on their respective portfolios of work and the combined team’s activity. You will leverage this skillset to support the team’s demonstration of effective development, delivery and impact of specific programmes of work. You will work closely with the Head of Design and team colleagues to compile and visualise data on these programmes and their stakeholders, developing accessible intelligence for dissemination both internally and externally.

Using your in-depth knowledge of design skills and tools, you will tailor these assets for their respective audience. You will build and consult with a broad network of communications, design and innovation colleagues from across the Innovate UK and UKRI ecosystems, leveraging from that network valuable insight for the Design in Innovation Team’s strategy.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead on creative development of data and communications assets, supporting colleagues’ ability to demonstrate clearly activity within their portfolio.
  • Be a team member who supports innovation and business growth through incentivising the use of design, in particular leading the ongoing delivery of the objectives of Innovate UK’s Strategic Delivery Plan.
  • Work with senior leaders (internally and externally) to think and act innovatively and creatively, especially with regards to the role of design in innovation.
  • Work with your Head of Team to translate delivery and impact data into accessible and actionable insight.
  • Deliver key business metrics agreed with your line manager, and to track progress, capturing outcomes and success stories.
  • Engage businesses with UKRI assets (including Catapults and Research Centres) and engage with business communities through our networks and sector development growth projects.

Experience & Skills

Essential Experience

  • Deep understanding of creative and digital design appropriate for the development of engaging assets relevant to innovation across multiple sectors, technology areas and challenge themes.
  • Knowledge of innovation processes and design in innovation.
  • Knowledge of the publicly funded grant landscape: its strategies, opportunities and constraints.
  • Capturing, visualising and analysing the outcomes and impacts of design in innovation activities and projects.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in business environments that span a range of functions including R&D, innovation and business development and growth.
  • Experience planning, coordinating, and delivering programmes of activity.

Essential Skills

  • Creative and technical design experience, with a focus on dynamic data visualisation.
  • Track record in knowledge transfer and innovation, demonstrating the impact of such experience.
  • An ability to switch between strategic and operational levels of thinking and delivery quickly and seamlessly.
  • Curiosity and openness to changes and learning.
  • Team player with good relationship building and influencing skills; enjoys working in a collaborative manner in an open, honest, and diverse environment.
  • Adept at influencing and persuading.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently and build effective relationships.
  • Results orientated and demonstrated delivery capability including for complex projects. Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively across multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, explaining complicated matters simply.
  • Ability to deliver outcomes to agreed expectations and timelines.
  • High level of IT literacy.

Desirable Skills

  • Confidence in working with (and stimulating) senior leaders to act innovatively and creatively.
  • Commercially aware – acting on information to improve strategies (internally and externally).
  • Adaptability and openness to work in new emerging business niches and across other relevant business sectors.
